Romantic strolls within a short drive of your Hideaway.

Walking is an essential part of winter wellness and is as good for the mind as it is for the body.

What makes the perfect winter days walk? We would argue something not too far away and lasting no more than 2 hours: Enough time to enjoy the crisp fresh air but not long enough to get hypothermia!

The perfect walk is most certainly followed by a long soak in a bubble bath or soothing your muscles inside the sauna and warming your toes by the wood burning stove.

We are fortnuate to have some beautiful local walks only a short distance from your Hideaway, which can be enjoyed during your stay.

DRONLEY WOODS

Only 5 minutes drive from the Hideaway Experience. The 50-acre plantation was, for decades, part of the Forestry Commission estate but, when it was deemed surplus to requirements, it was saved by a local charitable group and is now a community woodland.

You can either park at the designated car park (DD3 0QP) and take a wonder through the various routes within the woods or there is a great circular route which is depicted here.

Finish your walk by popping into the nearby Farm Shop: Grewars to stock up on food and drink essentials for your stay. Alternatively pick up a takeaway coffee to warm your hands during your walk.

Distance: 4.4km (allow 1-1.5hours)

NEWTYLE RAILWAY WALK

This is a lovely flat scenic walk following the routes of an old railway track and ideal if you want some exercise but don't want to climb any hills.

A 12 minute drive north west will take you to the village of Newtyle, which is resident to award-winning butchers Piries&Son; be sure to refuel after your walk here by purchasing some delicious Scotch beef steaks, full of protein to BBQ back at the Hideaway.

The Bulb Car Park (PH12 8UZ) is where you will begin the circular route along an old railway line which used to service Dundee to Strathmore and was decommissioned in the 1950s.

From the car park, follow the signs for the "Railway Loop Path". A suggestive circular route can be found here.

Distance: 5.8km (allow 1.5hours)

LUNDIE CRAIGS

A 20 minute drive to Tullybachart farm (parking on the left hand side along the A923) will make for a more strenous walk along the Lundie Craigs.

Cross the road and up the path towards Ledcrieff Loch. Once you reach the loch follow the path so the loch is on your left.

The path will continue and the "Craigs" will be up on your left. The path will then rear up to the left and the climb will begin to the top of the Craigs (please take care as it can be steep in places).

Once at the top you will enjoy panoramic views across to Dundee and into Perthshire, Fife and Angus. Head along the crags, go through the fence and you will now be on Wester Keith farm which is our other farm. There is a white trig point not far from the fence. Visit that and then head back down the track through the fence and follow the road through the woodland back to the car.

Distance: 6km (allow 2hours)

There are other variations on this route which means you can easily extend your walk.
