Our favourite local walks with delicious nearby lunch spots
Walking is fantastic for both the mind and body. It’s a great way to clear your head of any stresses, while connecting with nature and enjoying beautiful landscapes.
We’re fortunate to be situated in a rural location surrounded by excellent walking options, from stunning beach walks to hill routes in the Angus Glens. But what makes a walk even more satisfying? Fantastic cafes and eateries just a short drive from the start.
Here are some of our favourite walks and lunch spots you can find within an hour’s drive of The Hideaway Experience:
St Andrews West Beach and lunch at Balgove Larder
St Andrews, one of Scotland’s most beautiful towns, is famous for its prestigious university and its status as the 'home of golf'. West Beach is a vast sandy beach made famous in the film ‘Chariots of Fire’. Take a walk a long and afterwards visit the Steak Barn at Balgove Larder and enjoy tsucculent steaks, burgers and sausages.
Corrie Fee and lunch at Glen Clova Hotel
Corrie Fee is a spectacular spot to visit - a natural amphitheatre carved from the rugged mountains by a glacier during the last Ice Age. An excellent path starts from the head of Clen Clova to a viewpoint at the base of the corrie, offering stunning views. Conveniently, less than 10 minutes from the starting point is Glen Clova Hotel, a charming hotel offering fantastic lunches and meals set amidst beautiful countryside scenery.
Lunan Bay and lunch at Charleton Farm Café
Lunan Bay is perhaps the finest beach in Angus – a huge expanse of golden sand with a cave, an arch, and even a ruined castle. You could spend hours here walking along the shoreline and enjoying views looking out to the North Sea. Less than a 20-minute drive away is Charleton Farm Café, who was recently awarded the ‘Best Restaurant in Angus’ prize at the Angus Business Awards.
Broughty Ferry Beach and lunch at Forgans
Home to grand villas, a 15th century castle, and a lovely beach, Broughty Ferry is one of the nicest spots to visit in Dundee. The beach boasts lovely views across the Tay Estuary and is home to a nature conservation site. After your walk, you’ll be spoiled for choice with places to eat. However, one of our favourites is Forgan’s, which offers Scottish-inspired dishes in a warm and welcoming environment.
The Hermitage and lunch at Gloagburn Farm Café
The Hermitage is a magical stretch of Perthshire Forest, originally designed as a pleasure ground in the 18th century for the Dukes of Atholl. The woodland trail by the River Braan winds through towering Douglas Firs to Ossian’s Hall, overlooking the stunning Black Linn Falls. For something to eat afterwards, drive 25 minutes south to Gloagburn Farm Café, where you'll find a true farm to plate experience and fantastic homemade bakes and high-quality lunches.
